Story Mode


Spent a few weeks to add a major feature, a Story Mode, which gives the player an immediate goal upon launching the game. It consists of about 30 world-spanning quests of various types.

Each quest is introduced with a small dialogue between the party's members, which was tricky to make because these members are not definite, and could be killed in action or abandoned, while new members may join the squad as well.

I made sure the most "important" members usually speak in priority, with a simple Social mechanic, which is a counter that increases every time a member speaks. Each dialogue picks members at random, but with a slight bias for those members with the highest Social score.

In addition, there were some improvements and fixes since last time:

  • ๐Ÿ”˜ Updated buttons in the HUD to make them prettier
  • ๐ŸŒ„ Added a welcoming Launch screen
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Dialogue system and camera to support the story
  • ๐Ÿ™ Boss creatures do not appear until later in the story (gated monster spawners)
